A traditional therapy session is 45-60 minutes long. This time is broken down into three parts: opening, working, and closing. The opening and closing are typically 5-10 minutes each. The working period is approximately 25 minutes. This is repeated once a week for months. In six weeks, the working time is 150 minutes (2.5 hrs).
The Intensive session is three hours. This time is broken down into the same three parts: opening, working, and closing. The opening and closing are typically 5-10 minutes each. In one session, the working period is approximately 160 minutes (2 hours 40 minutes).
The length of time it takes to see results from counseling sessions varies depending on the individual and the concerns being addressed. Some clients may see improvements in as little as a single intensive session, while others may require multiple intensive sessions. On average, traditional therapy sessions are expected to achieve some results in 12-18 sessions/3-5 months. Our intensive model can reduce that to just 1-3 sessions, completed in a single week or spread over a few weeks.
Michelle Argentina is a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) with a master's degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. I have extensive training, in various modalities, including EMDR, Mindfulness, IFS, CBT, DNMS, etc. I have experience working with individuals with PTSD, anxiety, depression, and interpersonal issues.
EMDR stands for Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing. It is a psychotherapy approach that is used to treat individuals who have experienced trauma and/or other negative life experiences.
During an EMDR session, a trained therapist guides the individual through a series of bilateral stimulation techniques (BLS). Bilateral stimulation engages both hemispheres of the brain, promoting information processing and reducing distress associated with traumatic memories or disturbing life events.
The underlying theory of EMDR suggests that some experiences can overwhelm the brain's natural ability to process and integrate the associated emotions, thoughts, and sensations. As a result, these experiences remain stuck in the person's memory network, contributing to psychological difficulties. EMDR aims to help individuals reprocess these memories, allowing for more adaptive resolution and decreased emotional disturbance.
Numerous studies have demonstrated the effectiveness of EMDR. It is considered a evidenced based treatment and is recognized by various professional organizations, including the American Psychiatric Association and the World Health Organization.
It is important to note that EMDR should only be administered by a qualified and trained mental health professional. They will assess your individual needs and determine whether EMDR is appropriate for you.
